The Mechanical Contractors Association of Indiana, Inc. is a statewide trade association established to represent and service its members in the mechanical industry. It acts as the industrys voice in dealing with the public, state and local government, other construction industry groups, and labor. Unlike most other trade associations, the primary focus of MCAI is education, labor relations, and multi-employer collective bargaining.
Categories of Membership in MCAI Regular Membership in the Association is available to partnerships, corporations, and sole proprietorships who are regularly engaged in the mechanical contracting business, who have established places of business and who employ labor for the prosecution of such business. Since its origin, all regular members of the Association have been contractors who employ members of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipe Fitters (U.A.). Associate Membership in MCAI is generally available to firms or individuals having a direct interest in the mechanical contracting industry. Examples include, but are not limited to, mechanical equipment manufacturers, manufacturers representatives, wholesalers, and service providers. Affiliate Membership in MCAI is generally available to contractors and subcontractors who are involved in certain aspects of mechanical system installations, but not fully qualifying for a regular mechanical contractor membership. In joining as an Affiliate Member, these contractors are demonstrating their interest in and support for the goals and objectives of MCAI. Examples include, but are not limited to, sheet metal, emperature control, sprinkler, and installation contractors, etc. Local Chapters Within MCAI there are five local chapters who meet on a regular basis and carry on much of the business of the association. These chapters are know as MCA-Indianapolis Area, Central Indiana MCA (Muncie, Anderson, Richmond Area), Fort Wayne Area MCA (Ft. Wayne, Marion, Elkhart, Angola Area), Wabash Valley MCA (Terre Haute, Lafayette Area) and the MCA of Southern Indiana (Evansville Area). Each of these chapters are engaged in multi- employer negotiations and have a current collective bargaining agreement with their respective United Association local union. Two Service Bureaus MCAI operates two affiliate organizations which provide additional services to the mechanical construction industry. Each has separate membership and financing. Indiana Chapter 14 of the National Certified Pipe Welding Bureau (NCPWB) promotes quality welding in the pipe fitting industry at reduced costs through an interchange of welders and development of welding procedure specifications. The Service Contractors Association (SCA)provides assistance to contractors and service managers of those firms involved in H.V.A.C. service and maintenance. The SCA also conducts its annual Project HEATS ON (Handicapped and Elderly Assistance To Service Our Neighbors) which provides free home heating equipment tune-ups to elderly and disadvantaged home owners prior to the winter months. National Affiliation with MCAA The MCAI is closely allied to its national counterpart, the Mechanical Contractors Association of America, located near Washington, D.C. All regular members of MCAI are also members of MCAA. A large contingent of MCAI members regularly attend the MCAA Annual Convention usually held in late January or early February of each year. MCAI has also supported two (2) of its members to become presidents of MCAA (H. Jack Baker, 1974 and James A. House, 1990) Services Provided by MCAI Represents members in all labor relations matters including negotiation, grievances, apprenticeship training and benefit plans; Legislative and governmental affairs representation before state and local bodies; Represents member interests to owners, architects engineers, general contractors, subcontractors and others involved in construction; Direct membership services such as inquiry response, legal hotline, insurance and other programs; Educational programs are provided to the members and their employees; Publication of newsletter and contractor guidebook; Library of technical publications, manuals and tapes. |
