The purpose of the virtual tour of the UA Local #440 Training Center is to provide the Construction Industry with an overview of training utilized by UA Journeymen and Apprentices.

Eight training rooms are included in the virtual tour. The rooms included in the tour are: Backflow Testing & Certification, Medical Gas, Steam, Plumbing Fixtures, Orbital Welding, Brazing, Instrumentation, and Welding. As you view the Enhanced Training Center Tour, be sure to click on the "hot spots" as they provide general information about each room.

The UA Local #440 Training Center is located in Indianapolis and provides training for members in the Indianapolis area. There are four more UA training centers in Indiana that are also affiliated with MCAI. Those UA Locals and their training centers are: UA Local #136 (Evansville, Bloomington), UA Local #157 (Terre Haute, Lafayette), UA Local #166 (Fort Wayne), and UA Local #661 (Muncie).

Joint Apprenticeship Committees govern the training centers and their training programs in each area. Each committee is comprised of representatives appointed by a MCAI Chapter and UA Local in each area. The joint partnership between labor and management is one of the things that makes the UA training program a success.

Joint Apprenticeship Committee training is the basis on which a worker's lifelong commitment to learning is built. Apprentices gain knowledge based on a five-year combination of classroom and on-the-job training. Apprentices receive 1,700-2000 hours of on-the-job training and a minimum of 216 hours of related classroom instruction each year. Because of their mastery of fundamentals, journeymen can go on to avail themselves of UA training in more advanced areas such as: Welding, Backflow prevention and testing, HVAC, Computer aided drafting, Fiber optic and direct digital control systems, Industrial instruments, Medical gas system installation, and much more.

The UA is a Building Trades Union made up of Journeymen and Apprentices who perform work in the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry. The UA boasts the premier training programs available in the industry today, including a five-year apprenticeship program, extensive journeyman training, organized instructor training, and certification programs. Please visit the UA web site at www.ua.org to find out more about the specific training utilized by UA members.
